Train and Compete

At KWSLSC, members aged 8 to 70+ train for fitness, fun, and competition across a range of disciplines, including pool, ocean, lifesaving, surf boat, craft, swim, and beach events. Our club competes in local, state, national and even world events.

CALENDER 24/2025

SURF SWIMMING

  • Surf Race: A traditional open-water swim through the surf and back to the beach.

    Rescue Tube Race: A swimmer uses a rescue tube to rescue a 'patient' and return them to shore.

    Belt Race: A team event where a swimmer in a belt is assisted by a reel crew to reach a buoy and return.

SURF BOARD & SKI

  • Board Race: Competitors paddle a surfboard around a buoy course.

    Board Rescue: A team event where a swimmer is rescued by a teammate on a board.

    Surf Ski Race: Competitors paddle a surf ski through the surf and around buoys.

    Double Ski Race: Similar to the surf ski race, but with two paddlers on the same ski

IRB

  • IRB Rescue Race: Simulates a rescue scenario using an inflatable rescue boat.

    IRB Teams Race: A relay-style event involving multiple rescues.

    IRB Mass Rescue: Simulates multiple patient rescues in a short time.

    IRB Tube Rescue: A driver and crewperson perform a rescue using a rescue tube.

BOATS

  • Surf Boat Race: Crews of four rowers and a sweep navigate through the surf and back.

BEACH

  • Beach Sprint: A short, fast sprint across soft sand (usually 70-90m).

    Beach Flags: Competitors sprint to retrieve a baton from the sand, with one fewer baton than competitors.

    Beach Relay: A team sprint relay with batons.

    2km Beach Run: A longer-distance endurance race in soft sand

POOL RESCUE

  • 50m Freestyle with Fins
    Swim 50m using any stroke while wearing fins. Swimmers may complete the distance underwater.

    Obstacle Swim
    Swim freestyle 100–200m, passing under two submerged obstacles placed 12.5m from each end per lap.

    50m Manikin Carry
    Swim 25m freestyle, dive to retrieve a submerged manikin, and carry it to the finish.

    50m Brick Carry
    Swim 25m freestyle, retrieve a submerged brick, and carry it to the finish.

    100m Rescue Medley
    Swim 50m freestyle, then swim underwater to retrieve a submerged manikin and carry it to the finish.

    100m Manikin Tow
    Swim 50m with fins towing a rescue tube, attach it to a floating manikin, and tow it 50m to the finish.

    100m Manikin Carry with Fins
    Swim 50m freestyle with fins, retrieve a floating manikin using a rescue tube, and tow it back 50m.

    200m Super Lifesaver
    Swim 75m, recover and carry a submerged manikin. Release the manikin, put on fins, swim 50m with a rescue tube, secure a floating manikin, and tow it to the finish.

    Line Throw
    In 45 seconds, throw a rope to a teammate in the water and pull them 12m back to the pool edge.

    4 x 50m Medley Relay
    1st swimmer: no fins
    2nd: with fins
    3rd: with rescue tube (no fins)
    4th: with fins, tows 3rd swimmer as ‘patient’

    100m Patient Tow with Fins
    1st swimmer tows a rescue tube 50m, attaches it to 2nd swimmer who is then towed back to the finish.

  • Pool Rescue Season - March - July

    Please Note

    Family Membership covers parents/active patrolling parents and Nipper age children (U6-U13).

    Fees include membership to the Supporters Club (applies to 18+).

  • It is a requirement of Surf Life Saving Queensland that all helping nipper parents and patrolling members over the age of 18 years, hold a Current Working with Children Blue Card.

    Once your Blue Card application has been processed you are required to complete two small online courses. Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy (CYRMS) Child Safe Awareness (CSA). The Surf Office will help you with where to find these courses online.
